Focus on character. Things like plot, structure, theme, making sense (!) are extras to me. I just want complicated, fully realized, damaged, imperfect, interesting characters doing things. Any things. It can be grocery shopping, seriously. I care about character.

And relationships! Complicated, fully realized, damaged, imperfect, interesting relationships involving two or more people. Romance, friendship, family, found family, all of it. I love best: siblings (birth, adoptive, as close as), BFFs who love each other, people who belong together but are afraid, people who are horrible together but can’t quit, casual relationships that turn unexpectedly deep, soulmates. I love unresolved sexual tension. Two people flirting in a grocery store, seriously. I care about feelings.

My perfect scenario for pretty much any fandom is: everyone in the group has to live together for some reason and they all squabble about dishes and TV rights and sneak around into each others bedrooms in the middle of the night.

THE BASICS

I am a multi-shipper. I have preferences and "One" True Pairings, but there are few to no ships I don't like any alternatives to.

I ship all sorts of "problematic" ships. I don't have issues, I have interests. I find unhealthy relationships between flawed and damaged people compelling in fiction. Please do not use my shipping preferences to pathologize or psychoanalyze me.

I ship het and f/f way more than m/m because I am a woman who prefers stories about women (trans women are women).

I mostly avoid Explicit/NSFW. Graphic description of sexual acts just pulls me completely out of the story, I prefer it simple and suggestive.

RELATIONSHIP TROPES I LOVE

Grew Up Together: ships where the characters met as children (whether they were close or not)

Imzadi: ships in which the characters are each other's first love (but break up, lose touch, and come back together)

Besties w/Benefits: ships in which the characters are best friends and have a physical relationship

Lopsided Balance of Power: ships in which one member of the ship is in a position of power over the other (most often Powerful Woman/Infatuated Subordinate)

Lopsided Balance of Feelings: ships in which one member of the ship is more invested than the other, or the other's feelings are buried or unobtainable (e.g. Married Vulcan)

Only Happy When It Rains: ships that have an element of tragedy
